NASEF Names James Wood the Scholastic Tournament Administrator for CIF Esports Initiative

NASEF, the North America Scholastic Esports Federation, has chosen James Wood as the official Scholastic Tournament Administrator for its upcoming tournaments and leagues within the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). His experience in scholastic esports is critical, both in the area of tournament organization and in implementation of meaningful education programs that connect esports to development of life and career skills.

Wood has been successfully managing both leagues and tournaments in the Northern California Esports League for years, and in that time he has successfully completed NASEF’s Scholastic Fellow and Mentor programs and now serves as a NASEF Community Leader. He has developed multiple esports-focused curricula, including courses on Careers in Esports, Esports Career Development Events, and Esports Broadcasting and Production. He has also been a high school teacher and managed a high school esports program, and he currently operates a middle school esports league (WRMSEC) with teams in six different states.

“James Wood is the perfect leader for this important role,” said Gerald Solomon, founder and executive director of NASEF. “He has experience in organizing well-run, large-scale tournaments involving many schools, and he is well-respected in the ‘esports edu’ community. He has extensive experience building meaningful connections between play and learning, which is vital to both NASEF and CIF.”

Wood will oversee both Tournament and CIF Esports Initiative League logistics, gameplay, and all other aspects regarding competitive play, including providing help and support for all participating schools.

Earlier this year, NASEF was named the Official Esports Provider of the CIF Esports Initiative. The NASEFxCIF Esports Initiative will be the exclusive California esports program for over 1,500 schools with approximately 1.7  million eligible students.
