Jorrel Batac Promoted to Chief Operating Officer of NASEF

Expanded Role Includes More International Involvement, Direction of Day-to-Day Operations

(Atlanta, Georgia – August 17, 2022) – NASEF, the North America Scholastic Esports Federation, has promoted Jorrel Batac to the role of Chief Operating Officer. Batac is well-regarded in scholastic esports circles for his development and guidance of the NASEF Scholastic Fellow program, a professional learning community which has supported more than 150 educators around the world as leaders in the “esportsedu” movement.

In his expanded role, Batac will work closely with the Executive Director on oversight and administration of NASEF as a non-profit. He will work with the NASEF team to establish strategic goals, initiatives, and partnerships that promote company culture and vision globally. “Jorrel has been the boots-on-the-ground, in-the-trenches leader at NASEF for years. He has done the work side-by-side with educators from the beginning,” said Chris Aviles, founder and president of Garden State Esports, the New Jersey NASEF affiliate. “This is the next logical step as NASEF and scholastic esports as a whole continue to explode in growth. There’s no better person for this job than Jorrel and I’m excited to continue to work with him.”

Batac holds a B.A. in Human Development and a Career Technical Education (CTE) Credential. He grew his roots as an instructor for various nonprofits, taught English in South Korea, volunteered as a virtual educator for students in India, and designed a statewide STEM enrichment program for expanded learning centers in California before joining NASEF. When not at work, he loves gaming and traveling with the wife, UAV tinkering, 3D printing, multimedia and design, exploring VR/AR, and playing with all things related to the future.

“In the last five years of my esports career, I haven’t met a more capable leader, emergent thinker or genuine person than Jorrel Batac. Best of all, he’s a gamer with a passion for play and learning. With Jorrel in this role with NASEF, I’m filled with optimism and excitement for the future of scholastic esports,” said Bethany Pyles, who works in training. development and partnerships at Cloud9 Training Grounds and the*GameHERS.

Gerald Solomon, Founder and Executive Director of NASEF, continues at the helm of NASEF. Kevin Brown’s educational and international expertise makes him an invaluable leader; he is NASEF’s Director of Global Education and Training and a key to the success of NASEF’s affiliate program. Claire LaBeaux, Chief Marketing Officer, drives NASEF’s content strategy and is an important connector for partnerships. With more than a decade of experience in communications for education-focused non-profits, she rounds out the leadership team. NASEF’s board chair Todd Harris brings extensive esports background to the group; he is CEO of both Skillshot and Ghost Gaming, co-founder of Hi-Rez Studios, and Chair of the Atlanta Esports Alliance.
