San Juan Unified School District Esports Tournament Livestreamed by Sacramento Educational Cable Consortium
May 28, 2026
The Sacramento Educational Cable Consortium (SECC) livestreamed the San Juan Unified School District’s Esports Tournament on Friday, May 15th at John Barrett Middle School. This is the seventh annual in-person esports tournament that San Juan Unified has hosted, but the first that has been live streamed.

About 150 viewers joined the livestream for this event. There were 23 teams, 46 matches, and two winners, ArcMS Black from Arcade Middle School and TL Cheetoz from Twin Lakes Elementary. Each team played Rocket League, a fast-paced sports video game where players control rocket-powered cars and try to hit a giant ball into the opposing team’s goal, a mix of soccer and driving!

"We are so grateful to have had the SECC crew and the shoutcasters help us produce this event. They brought our tournament to a new level of professionalism, contributed to the high-energy atmosphere, and generated a sense of accomplishment for the students who recognized that their hard work all season mattered,” said Nicole Naditz, Program Specialist at San Juan Unified School District.
SECC provided video and streaming equipment, full production staff and three shoutcasters for the estimated 180-minute livestream of the tournament.
“It was a joy to put the spotlight on students who don’t normally get the opportunity to showcase their talents and abilities in a team sport environment”, said Julio Sanchez, Production Manager at Sacramento Educational Cable Consortium.
SECC continues to expand its production services to include these types of live-streamed esports tournaments, graduations, and other significant events for schools and districts throughout the Sacramento area. NASEF is working with the SECC to educate its members on the benefits of esports, as well as offering resources for building and implementing impactful scholastic esports programs.
