Anaheim Ducks Join Forces With North America Scholastic Esports Federation for Minecraft Face-Off

press release Apr 22, 2020
Anaheim Ducks NASEF Minecraft Face-Off

NASEF provides students at home a creative outlet that ties their love for building through Minecraft with the fun of hockey

(Orange County, CA – April 22, 2020) – The Anaheim Ducks are teaming up with the North America Scholastic Esports Federation (NASEF) to find North America’s best hockey fans and Minecraft designers in the 2020 NASEF Minecraft Face-Off.

Teams of up to four students in grades 3rd-12th can face-off against other teams throughout the United States and Canada for a chance to win prizes. As with all NASEF programs, participation is completely free. The competition will give students the chance to design their favorite hockey team’s logo, jersey and even a next-generation hockey arena.

“NASEF has expanded our community-focused programs for students as we all adjust to being at home and missing our recreational pursuits,” said Gerald Solomon, NASEF founder. “We know kids love Minecraft, so we added that as an option. Our recent NHL20 tournament, presented with four pro teams, was a great success; it made perfect sense to take a similar approach and intertwine hockey with this challenge. We’re excited to offer the 2020 NASEF Minecraft Face-Off to students and hope to inspire their creativity and bring them some joy in the process.”

NASEF leverages massive youth interest in esports and gaming by teaching students about career options that exist in esports, professional sports, and other industries. Students may develop gaming abilities, but the focus is on learning and practicing skills in related careers like shoutcasting, marketing, artwork and design, and more.

Join NASEF on Friday, Apr. 24, 2020 at 12 pm PT on the NASEF Twitch Channel, as they will review each challenge, share tips, information, how-to’s and live-builds. (The entry details will be available as a VOD playback after that date.)

Entering the 2020 NASEF Minecraft Face-off:

  • Use Minecraft to design the Challenge.
  • Submit a video of the Challenge in Flipgrid by May 15, 2020. The video should be submitted by an adult sponsor and include a narrative of the designs.
  • Share the video on Twitter using the hashtag #MinecraftFaceOff
