2020 NASEF Minecraft Masters Global Competition

Calling all Minecraft designers and innovators! We’re looking for the world’s best Minecraft teams to go head-to-head in the 2020 NASEF Minecraft Masters Global Competition.

Teams of Minecraft builders go head-to-head, testing their skills and creativity in this summer’s global challenge. Throughout the challenge, expert judges encourage the amateur Minecraft builders, introduce incredible challenges and put the creations to the test. Three live-streamed build competitions challenge teams until the finale, during which teams face off for great prizes, and the grand title of Minecraft Master.

We’re looking for teams of up to four students ages 13-18 years old who want to face-off against teams from around the globe in association with our partners: MonClub esports in France, SEFI in Israel, JHSEF in Japan, the US Embassy in Mexico, Benjamin Franklin Library and its American Spaces across Mexico, esports partners in South Africa, and the British Esports Association in the United Kingdom. We’re excited to announce that each round and the finals will be live streamed with our partner Participate.

The competition is broken into four parts: 

Preliminary Round

In this round, ALL teams will use their master Minecraft skills to compete for one of the four top spots to advance to the Live Challenges. (now closed)

Do You Have the Skills?

NASEF hosts a variety of Minecraft challenges and competitions, however, the Minecraft Masters enables us to showcase individual young people and collective teams’ mastery of skills and knowledge in Minecraft. For this competition, we expect all team members to demonstrate skills in:

  • Design
  • Redstone
  • Commands/Command Blocks
  • Code Builder

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the 2020 NASEF Minecraft Masters Global Competition (including Masters @Home and Juniors @Home Challenges), all entries must meet the basic requirements:

  • Complete registration at the NASEF website. The registration form must be completed by the Adult Sponsor (educator, parent or guardian).
  • Each team member must be between 13-18 years old at the time of registration (Masters) and 12 and younger (Juniors).
  • Teams must have a minimum of two members. Teams with less than two members will not be eligible.
  • Each team member must read the Team Guide.
  • Throughout the competition:
    • Must be your own original work.
    • Must not contain any content that is obscene or offensive.
  • For the Live Challenge rounds and final:
    • Each team member must have parent approval. 
  • For the Masters and Juniors @Home Challenge Rounds and Finals, each team must enter using our Flipgrid. When you register, you will be provided the link to our Flipgrid.

Why Compete?

All registered team members receive access to Minecraft Education Edition to work collaboratively with their teams! Each team member will receive their own username and password and will be able to access it for the entire competition. And, teams have the opportunity to compete for awards throughout the competition plus they will earn the title of Minecraft Masters, Masters in Training and Juniors!

Just Added! Minecraft Juniors @ Home Challenges for All Ages

But what if I have a team but we are younger than 13 years of age? Get ready to compete with your team from home! We are excited to announce the 2020 NASEF Minecraft Juniors @Home Challenges.

We’re looking for teams of up to four competitors from grades K-12 (elementary, middle and high school equivalence) who want to face-off against teams from around the globe in association with our partners: MonClub esports in France, ISEF in Israel, JHSEF in Japan, the US Embassy in Mexico, Benjamin Franklin Library and its American Spaces across Mexico, esports partners in South Africa, and the British Esports Association in the United Kingdom.

How It Works

The Minecraft Juniors @Home Challenges provide Minecraft Masters-in-Training to compete along side the Masters Global Competition. There will be five challenges to compete in:

  • Preliminary Round: Wednesday, July 22, 2020 (closed)
  • Round 1: Saturday, July 25 - Wednesday, July 29, 2020 (closed)
  • Round 2: Sunday, July 26 - Wednesday, July 29, 2020 (closed)
  • Round 3: Saturday, August 1 - Wednesday, August 1, 2020
  • Finals: Saturday, August 8, 2020 - Wednesday, August 12, 2020

Tune into each stream of the Live Challenge Rounds and Final Event to hear us reveal the next Challenge details. We will update the website and our Flipgrid at the end of each live stream. Once the Challenge is announced, the team will have until 5:00pm PDT | 8:00pm EDT | 11:59pm UTC/GMT on the following Wednesday to create their design and upload their video to Flipgrid.
