Farmcraft® 2024: Digital Harvest is an educational program that uses the popular game Minecraft to enhance understanding of the evolving agricultural industry and its impact on global food security. The program is open to all ages, but is designed to supplement the learning of students ranging from 8-18 years of age.
Farmcraft® 2024 is focused on the impact of digital technology on agricultural productivity. Many of the agricultural productivity increases in the last few decades have directly resulted from the adaptation and adoption of digital technologies to farming!
The competitive season has ended, but the resources and challenges are available below for continued learning and fun!

Regular Season Challenge #1
Using the latest NASEF Farmcraft map in Minecraft: Education Edition, work with your teammates to complete the task of producing the necessary crops to feed your communties. While you are playing consider how your choices affected your crop productivity.
In your video diary, recap your team's experience with the following questions:
- What was your initial process in completing the task? What strategies did your team initially use to complete the task? What steps did you take to ensure you could provide all of the necessary crops?
- What elements of farming have been modified in this Minecraft map? How does this relate to real life farming?
- What can your team do differently next time to produce a better score?
NOTE: The 2024 competition has closed, but you are still welcome to view and submit to the leaderboard to see your score compared to others.

Regular Season Challenge #2: Technology Implementation
Using the latest NASEF Farmcraft map in Minecraft: Education Edition, work with your teammates to complete the task of producing the necessary crops but focus on maximizing automation. Rather than purchasing multiple plots, make purchasing technology upgrades (sensors, automation, seed upgrades) your TOP PRIORITY.
In your video diary, recap your team's experience with the following questions:
- How did prioritizing technology affect the experience of your game?
- Did you find this an effective strategy? How did the cost of technology affect your gameplay? Was it easier to play this way? Did it cost more? Did it take more or less time?
- How would you balance the cost of technology with the needs of your team and the goal of feeding the community?
NOTE: The 2024 competition has closed, but you are still welcome to view and submit to the leaderboard to see your score compared to others.

Regular Season Challenge #3: Agriculture in Urban Environments
Using the latest NASEF Farmcraft map in Minecraft: Education Edition, work with your teammates to complete the task of producing the necessary crops to feed your communities. This time, all purchases you make MUST take place in the urban farms. Avoid purchasing any plots or upgrades in the rural or suburban zones.
In your video diary, recap your team's experience with the following questions:
- What was most effective about focusing on urban indoor farming? What was least effective about this strategy?
- Why might a community have no alternative but to use these farming practices?
- How might urban farming be improved in the future?
- How do you plan to make urban farming part of your overall strategy when working towards your best time and score?
NOTE: The 2024 competition has closed, but you are still welcome to view and submit to the leaderboard to see your score compared to others.
