While volunteering in my children’s classes, I knew I wanted to devote my life to teaching. I began my college education at the age of 40, graduating with a master's degree in education. Although starting out as a lower primary teacher, I’ve found my niche in sixth grade for the last 10 years. As a former technology coordinator, I continue to incorporate technology into my lesson plans and classroom. As an inaugural member of the NASEF Scholastic Fellow Program, I plan to bring esports to my school to help students gain communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills they can use in their current and future lives and careers. Because cooking is a passion of mine, I also created a food science program for the sixth grade. When not traveling to ancient civilizations, I volunteer with the Pageant of the Masters organization in Laguna Beach every summer.

Why did you become a NASEF Scholastic Fellow?

I wanted to learn more about the education involved in the world of video games. Some students need a place to belong in school, and this program provides a variety of opportunities for a diverse group of students.
