High School Fellow
April Dixon is an Administrator, Facilitator, and Art Teacher at Shasta Charter Academy, a Personalized Learning free public charter school in Redding, CA. At SCA, students' educational needs are met based on connecting their interests, life values, learning styles, strengths, and career and educational goals. Because April has a hard time saying “no” to anything that benefits her school community, she organizes school-wide field trips and student activities, creates the annual yearbook, the Senior Slideshow, runs the school's social media accounts, and advises the Esports Club at SCA. She was born and raised in Redding. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts from San Diego State University then returned to Redding where she earned her teaching credentials in English, Art, and Physical Education and Master's Degree in Education from Simpson University. April taught at "regular" schools until she found her tribe of like-minded educators at SCA.
Why did you become a NASEF Scholastic Fellow?
I chose to become a NASEF Scholastic Fellow because I want my students to have access to an education that understands and supports their career goals. My hope is to connect learning and academic achievement to my students' interest in competitive gaming while providing them with a pathway to a possible esports career.
