High School Shoutcasting Program
Calling all students interested in shoutcasting!
The High School Shoutcasting Program is returning for the 2020-2021 season!
Student shoutcasters will:
- Learn the ins-and-outs of esports commentary
- Receive training from experienced UCI Esports shoutcasters
- Develop skills in communication, teamwork, and coordination
- Gain live, on-air experience and broadcast to the official NASEF Twitch
What is shoutcasting?
Shoutcasting refers to the running commentary of esports matches that is intended to both entertain and inform the viewer, and it is a crucial part of what makes esports so engaging. The main goal of shoutcasting is to keep the audience engaged and paint a picture for the mind’s eye. Shoutcasters generate excitement and hype when the situation calls for it, and provide excellent analysis of player decisions between the action. For new fans, game commentary can often be overwhelming; good shoutcasters are crucial for helping them understand what is going on and retaining their interest in the game. Finally, great shoutcasters are there to define each esport scene. Legendary moments are captured forever by the voices that bring the play to life. The esports experience is not complete without shoutcasters.
How does shoutcasting fit into scholastic esports? What are the benefits?
NASEF’s tournaments and programs help all students use esports as a platform to better themselves and acquire crucial skills needed for success. By providing opportunities to experience different aspects of esports, such as broadcast and on-air talent, we hope to involve an even wider variety of students. Opening these opportunities to students will also give them another way to develop important skills, such as:
- Developing crucial communication skills by collaborating with team members
- Learning to work on a schedule
- Building confidence as they create their on-air personality
- Understanding the importance of teamwork and trusting their peers
- Learning the ecosystem of the esports industry
How do I sign up to be a shoutcaster?
You must be a registered NASEF club member in order to sign up. The program has rolling admissions, and will be accepting students for the duration of the competitive season!
